The United Arab Emirates have opened a ten-year residence to graduates of a global top 100. Ten years to live and work, without an employer having to sponsor the visa. It is a rule of the country. The federal authority: Golden Residency. The portal: Golden Visa.
The degree makes the difference. A bachelor’s degree awarded by a university in that top 100 places the graduate in this category. A bachelor’s degree awarded by a university that is not on it does not. Other universities do not open the same mobility.
The child can study somewhere else. The Emirates read the university that awarded the degree, wherever it is, as long as it sits in the top 100 they use. Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Oxford, Cambridge, Tsinghua, Peking, the University of Tokyo: these are names of that height. The Emirates’ top 100 looks at the same world of rankings as the Top 50 — Shanghai, Times Higher Education, QS — and draws the line a little lower.
Why the Top 50, when the country says one hundred
The Emirates chose one hundred universities. That is wider than a Top 50 of a given year. The principle is the one the United Kingdom and Hong Kong apply as well: the country uses the top of the ranking to decide who can come to live and work.
A university chosen because it “might still be in a top 100” in the year of the degree leaves this mobility on a fragile place. The Top 50 is the part of the ranking these countries read again from one year to the next. A child who enters it gains, with the degree, a readability the Emirates know how to use. Why aim for the Top 50.
The Golden Visa in this article is mobility after the degree. It says what a university of this rank makes possible later, in the Emirates. The studies themselves happen at that university, wherever the child is admitted.
The other two doors are written separately, with other lengths of stay. The HPI visa list. The Top Talent Pass.
While the child is still in school
The applicant is a graduate. The work of 6e, of 4e, and of high school is the university, because without it this residence, for this category, does not exist.
Liwaza Familles prepares that file from 6e. The diagnostic places the child: how they reason, where their English stands, what interests them, and which step a path toward a Top 50 university can start with.
