Seoul National University is the national university, in Seoul. It is not KAIST, and naming this university does not mean the child moves to Korea now.
Your child, in 6e (Grade 6) or in lycée, is not filing an application to Seoul National University this year. The bac, or the GCE, is not here yet. The name may already hold a place in what you say to each other. The season of files comes later. Between the two there are years of schooling, a language to hold if the path needs it, and academic English that is not improvised in the last month.
A comprehensive university, in the capital
Seoul National University is a comprehensive national university, in the capital of South Korea. It is broader than a single science institute. Letters, social sciences, sciences, other faculties: the name covers an undergraduate degree, not a single laboratory door. For a child after the bac, that is what the name means. Undergraduate study, at a university that does not reduce to one discipline.
We keep the name as it is said: Seoul National University. An improvised translation sometimes sends the family toward another institution, or toward a vague formula. Here, the name stays whole.
The city stays precise too. Seoul is the capital. Naming it places the university. It does not reserve housing, or a departure date. A parent can say “Seoul” for years without the child having to leave home this year, or the year after.
We do not choose the faculty at twelve in this page. A child may lean toward history, economics, biology, or something else, and change their mind. The university is broad enough for that hesitation to make sense. The diagnostic says whether this name, Seoul National University, is realistic for this child. The breadth of the institution does not make every profile equally at ease in front of this file.
What is built before the bac
If the path chosen later needs Korean, that language takes years. It is held like a school subject: classes, steadiness, an understanding that becomes usable in a room, not a summer pasted on before a departure. If the path does not need Korean, we do not invent an obligation in order to look serious. We do not publish here the list of programmes and their languages. That list changes, and it is read when the track is chosen.
Academic English stays in the work, whether or not Korean enters the path. Many programmes at this level ask for a high standard, often a C1. We do not promise that score. We build English over time, because a first degree is followed, read, and written.
The report card is held over years too. A comprehensive university compares children from different school systems. Marks matter. They tell a schooling, not a week of revision. Activities held over time tell something else: a duration, a responsibility, a way of carrying a piece of work through. That belongs in an undergraduate file, even when the parent thinks first of the university’s name.
Why the Top 50, and what comes after preparation, are in Why aim for the Top 50 and After Liwaza, how a child enters.
The country is chosen later, with the track and with the money. Saying Seoul National University today is not saying that your child will live in Seoul. Another university in the same set can become the right name when the path and the means are clear. Until then, we prepare a child, not a move.
Liwaza Familles speaks to that interval, from 6e, and still in 4e or in lycée if the diagnostic finds a realistic remainder.
A broad name, one child
The temptation, with a comprehensive university, is to treat it as a bag every profile fits into. That is not how a file is read. Seoul National University remains a selective institution. The variety of faculties does not shorten the years of work. It changes the kind of conversation: we do not lock the child into a single laboratory career for the name to be legitimate. An interest in letters or in the social sciences has the right to be said. It does not waive the file.
This page does not spell out a Korean enrolment procedure. The moment of forms is not the moment of 6e. The present moment is schoolwork, and a diagnostic that says whether this name deserves to stay on the table.
The place, the visa, the job
Admission is never guaranteed. A strong report card, a language worked, years of steadiness: none of that signs the letter. A refusal remains possible. The work already done is not erased by the refusal. What remains is a stronger schooling, usable for another selective university in the same set.
Holding a student’s place at Seoul National University, if one is offered, is not a contract at Tesla. The university teaches. A job, later, is another decision, made by an employer. The university’s name does not contain it.
We do not promise a visa. No school file is a residence title. The rules are checked in the year of a departure, if there is a departure.
You named Seoul National University. We look at whether the name holds for this child, as a university in Seoul, not as a decision about the country.
The diagnostic, before the capital
We do not start with an announcement of departure. We do not start with a stack of isolated tests, taken without looking at the child.
We start with a diagnostic: where your child stands, how they reason, how they learn, their English, their interests, and whether a language such as Korean has a reason to enter their path. That session is to see whether Seoul National University is a realistic name for them, now, as an undergraduate horizon. It does not replace a public exam. It does not decide the country in their place.
If the question is why begin early, the answer is in the years, not in a form for this school year.
