Tsinghua is a name you know. It is not yet a country chosen for your child.
This year, you are not submitting an application. Your child is somewhere between 6e (Grade 6) and the bac, or the GCE. The file a university of this rank can read is built during those years, alongside school. Liking the name does not assign China to them. The track and the money will choose the country later. Today the question is narrower: why this name is a serious target, and what gets prepared while the country stays open.
Beijing, engineering, an undergraduate degree
Tsinghua is in Beijing, in China. Families place the name beside engineering and the sciences. That is the memory the name leaves: a university that trains scientific and technical profiles, and where undergraduate study exists. This is a first degree, for a child who will have a bac or a GCE.
On the Familles page, the name is printed with the word "viser" — to aim at — and the flag of China. Aiming states the ambition. The flag states where the university is. Neither decides that your child will live there. China is one of the destinations Familles names, along with the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Singapore, and South Korea. Tsinghua is in this series because the name is on that strip. Shanghai, Times Higher Education, and QS are the references families have in mind. We cite neither a position nor a year.
Four threads to hold before the final year
If the name is serious, the file starts now. Four threads are held at the same time.
The school record first. Marks through lower and upper secondary school, up to the bac or the GCE, tell a continuity. These universities compare children who come from different school systems. The secondary-school diploma counts. It comes late. What was held before stays readable: a subject followed through, steady work, a progression one can recount. A path is not rewritten in a few months of the final year.
Academic English next. Many Top 50 programmes ask for a high level, often C1. We do not promise that score. We build English over time. IELTS or TOEFL will, when the time comes, show that your child can follow a class. Ease in the schoolyard is not yet that English. With the work and the teachers, a child can go a long way. The score itself remains an exam, not a promise.
Mathematics and the sciences, because that is why families know Tsinghua. A scientific level is held over years. Chapters stack. A way of reasoning is practised until it holds. If your child already likes to build, an activity kept up, with a finished project, shows that the interest lasted. We do not lock engineering at age twelve. We avoid arriving in Terminale, the final year, with a scientific file too thin for a name the family said it was aiming at.
The language of the country, if that path is chosen later. A route toward China, for many paths, includes Chinese. A language takes years. Discovering it in the final year, as a surprise in the middle of the file, is discovering it too late to build it calmly. We do not describe a language exam. We are not drawing up a catalogue of degrees in English: inventing one would be false. Other countries will ask for something else. The diagnostic will say what is realistic for this child. It does not choose the country for you.
The meaning of the rank, and entry after years of work, are not repeated here: Why aim for the Top 50 and After Liwaza, how a child enters.
A scientific file, if it is theirs
What is specific to Tsinghua, in the conversation parents have, is this neighbourhood with engineering and the sciences. The work one looks at is not the same as for a project turned first toward letters, even if both can live in the same child. We look at whether mathematics holds, whether the sciences are followed with care, whether something outside class shows that they like to understand a system. The job stays open. An employer's name is not the study plan.
Money is prepared at the same time as this file. A scholarship, a loan, family savings: that is built with you. It is not guaranteed. Outcomes depend on the profile, on the university's rules, and on funders. Liwaza prepares. Liwaza does not guarantee a scholarship or a loan. The track and that money will decide the country, when the time comes. A flag on a strip does not replace them.
Later, in 4e or in lycée, a family can still enter. The diagnostic then says what is still realistic. We do not promise admission because the child was followed for a long time. From 6e, the time is simply wider for English, the sciences, and a language if a path needs one.
A place does not decide the departure
Admission is never guaranteed. Even after years of work, a place at Tsinghua may not come. Those years are not wasted. Your child arrives with a stronger file, for a selective university in the same set.
A place at Tsinghua is not a job at Tesla. The degree, if it is earned, is a training. It does not sign a contract in industry. We do not promise a visa. Entry rules change, and the family checks them in the year a departure becomes real. Today, no country is decided. The name remains a target. The suitcase stays put.
We start from this child
We do not start with a list of tests to sit alone at home. We start with a diagnostic: where your child stands, how they reason, how they learn, their English, their interests. This session is there to see whether Tsinghua is a realistic target for them. It does not replace a public exam. It does not hand you a manual for running the whole thing without support.
